Flooring Myths: Debunked!

Myths, rumors, and horror stories are a part of everyday life. Whether you believe in the paranormal, or in the story that’s been mistold thousands of times over by the time it gets to you, there will always be myths and rumors to go along with any story or experience.

This is the same for the flooring industry, as there are many installation nightmares or misinterpreted details of products that scare most people away. Many of the things you think you know about flooring may, in fact, NOT be true! We’re here to debunk some of the most common myths and give you the facts, so you can be at ease and choose your new flooring with confidence!

Myth #1: Engineered Hardwood is inferior to Solid Hardwood

The Facts: Engineered hardwood is actually superior to Solid in many ways, with Engineered being a better suited option for basements, or any other areas where moisture issues are common. The layered construction also reduces the risk of warping, cupping, and shrinking, which leads to a more stable and durable floor.

Myth #2: All Engineered Hardwood is the same

The Facts: Unlike solid wood that changes mostly according to species, there is a huge range in engineered wood depending on the thickness of the top layer, so that’s why you’ll see a huge price variation. There are better-quality engineered woods with a price to match as well. Always remember, you get what you pay for.

Myth #3: Laminate products look/feel cheap

The Facts: Maybe that was the case 25-30 years ago, but the new and majorly improved Laminates of today are so well made you’ll have a hard time believing that they're not real wood! Laminates are difficult to scratch or dent, and they tend to be quite long lasting. With prices that make you and your wallet happy as well, Laminate is a great quality option for your flooring project!

Myth #4: Vinyl Flooring is dead

The Facts: It’s quite the opposite actually, as Vinyl, just like Laminate, has improved majorly over the years. The new vinyls are nothing like those your mom had. Today, it’s all about luxury vinyl that’s versatile, with every look you can imagine. Vinyl floors are particularly great for laundry rooms, kid’s playrooms, kitchens, and all high traffic areas. They are very resilient to scratches, super easy to clean, and they feel so nice to walk on!

Myth #5: Carpeting is bad for allergies

The Facts: That’s not always true. Some of the carpets made today are so advanced that they help to trap allergens that are floating in the air, keeping your air cleaner, and keeping you healthier and full of energy! These carpets also have anti-bacterial and anti-stain technologies that make them super easy to clean, and give it the long-lasting lifespan you would expect out of a high quality product. With these products, you can have that cozy, plush feeling under your feet without the worry of harmful allergens slowing you down!

While there are many other myths and tall tales of the flooring industry out there, getting some of the most common ones debunked and confirmed false makes it that much easier to have confidence in your shopping, and will help you find the perfect floor for the home of your dreams!
